Goodbye 2011: A Summary

The end of 2011 is finally upon us. This has been a steadier year compared to the past. Been to Istanbul, Turkey and flew back home this year. I also saw a lot of concerts of my favorite artists (Bruno Mars, Maroon 5, Chris Brown and the Script). Gained new friends and lost some. Work has been a lot for me this year but it’s all ok because I can appreciate all of God’s blessings.

I was trying to summarize what has happened the whole year but that would be a daunting task (and a boring post to read) so I did what I can do best: summarize the top 25 funniest posts of 2011. Here it goes:

01. What We Do On Weekends – 25 June
02. Show Us the Prize – 16 July
03. Violin Wars – 18 June

Bell Button Fly

“Teka lang! Aayusin ko lang ang bell button ko,” Ronald told me and Atong. He was wearing a new pair of jeans.
“Bell button?” Atong wondered and when he finally realized, screamed at Ronald, “Button fly!”
“Button fly ba tawag dun?”

70s?

My Ideal Light

Two people were talking about their condominium units, “Ganito gusto kong ilaw sa condo ko — medyo dim.”
“Ako ganyan ilaw ko. Sinabi ko na sa interior designer na kilala ko,” the other one answered.
I also have my own investment so I shared to them, “Sa lupa ko ganyan din ang papalagay kong ilaw.”
“Lupa lang ang sa’yo. Hindi condo,” the other guy told me.
“Bakit? Di ba pwedeng lagyan ng ilaw ang lupa? Gusto ko medyo dim din,” I answered.
“Sige. Ilagay mo sa ilaw ng poste para maliwanagan ang lupa mo.”

Christmas with Adele Live at the Royal Albert Hall

Christmas day 2011,  I decided to watch Adele’s Live Concert at the Royal Albert Hall DVD.

I found Adele very relaxed and funny with her spiels. We, also, cannot deny the fact that she is an amazing singer. My friends and I here in Dubai are really crossing our fingers that she comes here and perform soon enough. We’ll be first in line to buy the tickets.

Ronald watched along and he told me, “Bilib talaga ako d’yan kay Adele.”
“Sa pag-i-Ingles?”  I guessed.
“Oo. Saka yung accent n’ya. Napakahusay,” he admitted.
“Akala ko naman sa pagkanta!”

Graciana: Kulot Salot

“Bakit kayo late?” I asked Arn. He, Alex and Grace arrived late last night. We were supposed to meet up by 9:30 PM but they all arrived an hour later.
“Di ako late, si Grace ang late,” Arn answered.
“Bakit?” I asked.
“Nagpakulot pa kasi s’ya?”
“Bakit s’ya nagpakulot? Di n’ya ba alam na ‘Kulot Salot’?”
Quenie overheard and answered, “Paskong pasko nang-aasar ka nanaman.”
“Totoo! Tignan n’yo nasalot sila — Na-late sila.”

Lapis Ka Ba?

Playing around, Arn suddenly asked me, “Lapis ka ba?”
I knew it’ll be one of those crazy one liner games, so I answered, “Dahil drawing ako?”
“Hindi,” he answered.
“Dahil pointless ako?”
“Hindi rin.”
“Dahil number 3?”
“Hindi.”
“Eh ano?” I gave up.
“Kasi monggol ka.”

Gold, Frankincence and Lyre

Our group decided to sing “Munting Sanggol” for our assigned Simbang Gabi mass.

Trying to sing along, Atong sang,”Dala’y ginto, kamanyang at LIRA,” for the gifts that the three kings has brought Jesus.
“Lira?”
“Mali ba?” he asked.
“Oo . Mira! Myrrh.”

“Napakalaki nga naman ng lira para sa sabsaban.”

Christmas Leave

I sent the following email to my boss…

Dear Carol,
I don’t know if you’ll approve but I would still try to ask (so that I would not have regrets by not asking), can I take 22nd and 25th off? I will access my emails from home from both days so no need to worry about transferring accounts to Sharad or Prabheesh.
For your kind consideration. Merry Christmas.
.

I showed it to my Hindu colleague  and said, “Orlee, that is so smart. I’ll definitely do this on Diwali.”

MD Joy Surprise Party

We prepared a surprise party for our Musical Director today at McDonald’s Sheik Zayed Road. I kept my iPod ready to capture the perfect reaction.

Here’s how it went down:

I wanted more! Seriously. Joy confessed that she held her tears as she doesn’t wanna embarrass herself. I told her after, “Alam mo, Joy? Mas maganda pa and reaction ni Atong at Arn arn kesa sa’yo eh.”
“Oh? Paano?” she asked.
“Nag-practice kami,” I told her and showed this video:

She was so touched. We’re happy that she had fun.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JOY! FROM YOUR CVC FAMILY.
