Big Ass Fonts

Big ass fontsNanay was not used to a touchscreen phone but when Tem bought a new iPhone 5s, her old iPhone (3?) had nowhere to go but to be handed down to her.

“Nung una ayaw pa ni Nanay,” Tem told me, “Pero nung natutunan n’ya unti-unti, nasanay na rin naman na.”

Last time I peered over Nanay’s phone, I saw this big ass fonts. I laughed but realized, “Hey! It works.”

Nanay’s Food Review

“Masarap tong {food item} na to,” Paula and I agreed.
“Patikim?” Nanay asked.
After tasting it, Nanay screamed, “Lasang ihi ng daga!”

Nay, leptospirosis ho ang ihi ng daga. Kelan pa ho kayo nakatikim ng ihi ng daga?

Behaved Miggy

Miggy was having his first haircut in months yesterday. This was before his Lola’s 60th party.

He was talking to the hairdresser… constantly. Like when he was being shaved, he would say, “Ay may ganyan din kami sa bahay,” and hair would fall on his open mouth.
He would wipe it off.
“AYAN ANG DALDAL MO KASI,” the hairdresser told him.
“Miggy, wag ka na magsalita,” His Tita Mimi told him, “Ikaw na lang hinihintay namin.”
Miggy then closed his mouth forcefully and never spoke again.

Uncle Bully

Sam was requesting for a picture from Paula using Sam’s phone but since Paula was also holding the SLR camera and I was in a hurry, I pushed Sam and told her, “Alis d’yan kami muna ni Tita Mitch.”

Minutes later, I saw this picture on instagram.

Birthday Selfie

When Karol was about to go from Nanay’s Party, “I told her selfie mina tayo,”
Nanay was also approaching the centre of the party (where most people are taking pictures) with her friends. I knew she will attempt to get a picture.
“NAY! Kami ho muna,” I told her off.
“O sige,” She willingly gave way.

Karol laughed, “Birthday ng Nanay mo! Talagang sya ang pinatabi mo.”
“Oo nga no?” I laughed and took the selfie anyway.

Lent Sacrifice

Every year, the Catholic Church encourages us to have a “Lent Sacrifice” where we let go our earthly habits in order to remember our Lord’s own sacrifice for the whole lent period (roughly 40 days). This is the same as fasting from food but it could be anything from not eating sweets (my sacrifice last year) to logging off from Facebook (a friend’s sacrifice).

This year, Mitch is trying REAL HARD to stay away from coffee while I promised to not eat in-between meals. Ronald swore that he will be good during this period and not discriminate against people. Usually we would hear something like, “Ang baho nitong katabi ko,” or the usual “Ang baduy ni kuya.”

Last week, we were watching THE WALKING DEAD when he accidentally uttered that a pair of characters are good for each other, “Bagay yang dalawang yan…”
“Bakit!?” We wide-eyed asked him. We knew he was about to trash talk both characters.
“Kasi… ummm… Pareho silang matapang saka mabait.”

Zanzibar-Coffee-House6“Kuya, kape?” Rosie, our Help offered me.
“Sige nga,” I answered.
Tatay overhearing this said, “Ako eh kanina pa gustong-gusto magkape… Wala naman nag-aalok. Ibang iba talaga pag galing abroad eh. Makapag-abroad na nga sa susunod.”

6 Hours Making Up

One of the reasons why Mitch and I came home was because of her Dubai friend’s wedding in Tagaytay.

The ceremony was at 9 AM and a wedding pictorial was scheduled at 6 AM; hence, the make up was as early as 3 AM. Imus is an hour away from Tagaytay so I had to pick her up at exacty 2 AM. I needed a driving time of at least 15 mins.

When Nanay asked, “Anong oras ka aalis?”
“Mga 1:45 AM ho,” I answered.
“Anong aga!? Anong oras ba kasalan?” she wondered.
“9 ho nang umaga. Me-make up-an pa. Bridesmaid sya ho,” I answered.
“Gaano ba kalaki mukha ni Mitch at 6 na oras s’ya me-make up-an,” she asked.
“Baka naman parang bata na malikot, palakad-lakad habang mine-make up-an,” Tatay butted in.
I laughed at their thoughts and explained the reason afterwards.

Homecoming Phone

I decided this time not to sign up for any Blackberry Service coming home. Since it’s just two weeks, I’ll be retaining my UAE number on my BB Z10 and will BBM people over wifi.

I still needed a local number so if people would need to call me, it won’t eat up my UAE prepaid load. Nanay offered, “Oh, sayo mina tong lumang phone ko,’ It was an old Nokia unit.

MyPhone

“Kuya,” my sister told me, “Yan yung mga tipo ng phone na kapag naiwan mo, ikaw pa young hahabulin ng nakapulot… SIR! NAIWAN MO YUNG PHONE MO!”
I laughed, “Yung hindi man lang magdadalawang isip kung ‘Isosoli ko ba to o akin na lang?'”
We both laughed at the idea.
