Mader Pakar

translation-blog-300x300An Indian colleague asked, “When are we doing that report?”
“Later in the afternoon”, I answered. I was busy that morning.
“What fucker!?” I asked him.
Taken aback he slowly answered, “Paka means– Sure?”
“Oh ok…” I answered,  “Pakar.”

Focus Runs in the Family

I proudly showed my colleagues this photo of my nephew in Instagram telling them, “Being focused runs in my family…”

Dubai Pasko

PaskoOne time, Mercy joined me on my way home from the office. I played San Miguel Master Chorale’s Pasko Album inside Basha.
“Di naman dama pasko dito,” she irritatingly commented.
“Mercy, ilang taon ka na dito sa Dubai ‘yan pa rin ang linya mo? Di ka masanay?” I sarcastically answered.
She laughed, “Eh totoo naman.”
“Sige sasakyan ko drama mo…” I jokingly replied, “Oo nga. Nakakalungkot. Hindi natin madama ang diwa ng pasko. Hangang kailan kaya tayo magtitiis? Nakakamiss makapiling ang ating mahal sa buhay sa panahon ng kapaskuhan.”
She couldn’t stop laughing.

Kenya Wake Up Call

Since our accommodation was a tent-type cottage (zippable) without phones, I wondered how the hotel staff would wake us up when they asked, “What time would you like your wake up call be?”
“How are you going to Wake us?” I asked them, “Slap us?”
The Kenyan staff laughed, “Yes. Slap you!”

Retelling Renato

Atong has a habit of retelling stories again. He might’ve forgotten he told it or he is just fond of retelling the same story.

Screen Shot 2013-12-02 at 7.29.15 PMHe did this to me and Ron one time during the choir’s Teambuilding Activity in Safa Park.
“Di pa tayo nag-re-register sa Standard Chartered Marathon,” he told me.
“Takbo ka Ron?” I asked Ron.
“Baka hindi,” Ron answered.
“Dati ba naman,” Atong started (re)telling, “Si Lilly, yung asawa ni Jerome, sumama lang para picture-an si Jerome. Tumakbo! Hangang 10k! Natapos nya!” He told this with so much glee.

Number 1: I know this story.
Number 2: Ron was with them, when they ran.
Number 3: Atong knows that Ron and I knew the story well.

“Sige…” I started, “Magpapanggap ako na di ko pa alam… WOW! TALAGA? ANG GALING NAMAN NI LILLY!”
Atong had a straight face, “Ang yabang mo! Kinukwento ko lang.”
“Nakwento mo na ‘yan!” I screamed at him.
“Si Ron baka hindi alam,” Atong told us.
Ron laughed, “Hahaha! Alam ko na rin ‘yan.”

Hayaan na natin baka natutuwa sya magkwento.
