Chicken Run

Yesterday morning, I tweeted this…

Obviously that was a mistake as some of my friends thought it was true: It’s real that we are running 5k for Red Crescent but we are not holding a bucket full of chicken while running. Here’s how it went via BBM.

Estela:  How any chicken did you consume while running?? Hehe
Freida:  Hahaha! Parang and weird lang talaga ng run na to.
Orlee:  Weird dahil fastfood and host? Oo. Weird.
Freida:  Hindi naman kaya. Di ba running promotes healthy lifestyle tapes may hawk ng bucket ng chicken. Hehe!
Estela:  Ilan pcs of chicken? Sayo after ng run?
Orlee:  Ay naku! Joke lang yung may hawak na bucket! Hahaha!
Estela: Hala! Nakwento na ni freida sa head office. Hahaha.

Chinese Date

When the book club had a get together, we arrived on the topic of dating:

“Anong date ba ang gusto mo? Dinner?” I asked Estela.
“Sa akin ok lang ang coffee date. Kahit afternoon lang, yung ganun. Masyado kasing straight forward ang dinner. Mag-de-dress up pa and all,” she anwered.
“Syempre gusto mo umagang date – Chinese ka eh,” Freida commented.

Wait For It

During our recent Book Burners Reunion last night at Fully Booked Bonifacio High Street, we saw the book BRO ON THE GO.
This triggered Freida to attempt uttering the famous line from the tv show, “Wait for it…. Legen… Ay! Mali pala!”

It’s Legen…. Wait for it… Dary!

Star Stroke

When me and my Book Burnermates met last July in Fully Booked-Taguig, I was star-stricken to see one famous female-director. See picture below.

I told Frifri, “Pa-picture tayo kay Marilou Diaz-Abaya!”
“Ssssshhhhhh!!!!!!!! Orlee! Huwag kang maingay. Hindi ‘yan si Marilou Diaz-Abaya! Si Bibeth Orteza ‘yan!”

Bibliophilia

Part of being a proud bookworm and bibliophile is to boast books that I’ve read (hundreds of it) and my opinion on certain authors and novels (Stephanie Myer = Bad version of JK Rowling).

I like time travel stories and contemporary novels. I also like to explore new authors and exotic reads. Hindi erotic.
A big NO for me is to read those girly novels and chick reads: Shopaholic of the Yaya Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants.
My bookclubmates already know this but they complained, “Explore new authors nga ‘di ba?”
But I still insist, “Sana may ibang choice.”

I was assigned to decide which book to read for August and I’ve decided for the book club to read Of Mice and Men by Jon Steinbeck.
Fri-fri will decide the read for September and she told us, “Life on the Refrigerator Door by Alice Kuipers.”
Yesterday, when I went to Magrudy’s I walked the walk and talked the talk, “Umm, excuse me,” I feel proud buying books for myself, makes me feel as if I’m a professional book critic, “Do you have the Life on the Refrigerator Door book by Alice Kuipers?”
The sales clerk checked his computer, “Yes, sir. Follow me.”
We walked passed by fiction. Ah, thriller ang genre.
We then passed Horror and Thriller. Science fiction siguro?
After passing that section, also, he then turned to Young Adult and grabbed the bright pink book.
I kinda felt shy buying a book with flowers on the cover so I defended myself and spoke outloud, “Ummmm, aahhhhh,  my friend chose this.”
The sales guys told himself, “Whatever sir.”

Yes! I Did! No! You Didn’t!

BookclubI called up Freida, my book clubmate and former colleague, yesterday to greet her a Happy Birthday. She was touched and she appreciated the gesture.
She then sent an email to our circle (which simply means adding Estela to the discussion), “O-oh! Thank you sa phone call! Na-touch ako. So sweet.”
Estella replied, “Hoy! Bakit ako ‘di mo tinawagan nung birthday ko?”
Then I replied, “Tumawag kaya ako, ulyanin ka. Choppy nga nun kasi nasa Marikina ka, mahina ang signal.”
“Excuse me, wala ako sa Marikina nun!” she answered, “Nasa Libis ako nun nag-pa-park sa basement kaya mahina ang signal. Saka hindi ko na birthday nun. Kinabukasan na ‘yun.”
I, not realizing this, used the ‘time difference’ card, “May difference kasi sa araw kaya siguro nalito ako,” and Estella bought it though it’s only a four hour difference.
Freida, the one who is celebrating her birthday, replied, “Hala! Napasama pa pala ang pag-‘Thank You’ ko.”
