Volume Classification

After observing that almost everybody in our family has loud voices with all the screaming around the house, Ate Richie told me, “Ang lalakas ng boses natin ano? Sigawan ng sigawan sa bahay na ‘to.”
“Ganoon talaga, ate, pag mayaman,” I boasted, “Kasi pag mahirap ka, maliit lang ang bahay n’yo, ‘di mo kailangang sumigaw kasi konting salita lang maririnig na. Eh kapag malaki ang bahay, kailangang sumigaw para marinig sa kabilang dulo ng bakuran.”
“May punto ka d’yan,” my sister agreed.

Volume is directly proportional to household income.

ASAP Alone

“Akala ko ba nanonood ka ng ASAP?” I asked ate Pam walking around the house while ASAP is still on.
“Ayoko mamintas ng mag-isa,” she has a habit of telling singers and dancers that they are fat, too thin, ugly or some other negative physical stuff.
“Ate Pam, kaya pala hinihila mo ako tuwing mapapadaan ako sa salas… para lang sabihan ako ng mga panlalait,” Tem answered.

Miggy: The Alarm Boy

Miggy was trying to wake his mom up, “Mommy, wake up na!” while rubbing her face, “Mommy! Wake up na… Di na night. Sunshine na… Mommy…”
Tem was up but she just needed a few more stretching though she really was still sleepy. She heard the door open then closed. She told herself, “Hay salamat… Makakatulog pa ako.”
After a few minutes, she heard the door open again and heard our battery operated cookie jar — the one that does a cock’s Crook-a-doodle-do when opened. Miggy opened this a million times so that it’ll do the cock’s wake up call.
“Mommy, ‘di pa pag may chicken na, gising na dapat. Wake up na.”
Tem laughed so hard with the thought of how clever her kid is. She’s finally awake.
The problem was Sam was also sleeping in the same room. She could only scream, “Miguel!!!! Ang ingay mo!”

Tatay’s Vodka

I bought home Tatay some liquors but when he saw that we were trying to open a bottle of Vodka for the visitors on Nanay’s birthday, he could only say, “Anak, salamat at inuwian mo ako ng Vodka.”

Aki’s Translation

Since Aki can’t understand Tagalog that much she became quite worried about some translations in Filipino…

“Tita Tem, may tubig ako sa tenga,” Aki tried really hard to translate that from Japanese.
“Ha?! Patay!” Tem answered.
“PATAY!?!?!?!?!?” Aki thought of the translation in Japanese.
