Less is More

06 Oct

My sister works with one Indonesian lady, she communicates fluently in English but unfortunately. Like the ‘f’ and ‘p’ problem of some Filos, she has an issue with these words: Raffles and Charles.

“Where are you?”
“I’m in Raf-less.”
“Where?”
“Raf-less. Raf-less Hotel!”

One customer left his ID, she read it and shouted, “Mr. Char-less! Mr. Char-less! You left your wallet.”
Mr. Charles looked back when he realized that Char-less was him.

When her colleagues confronted her, she simply answered, “That is how Indonesians speak in English.”
The Indians, Filipinos and Uzbeks screamed, “No! You are the only Indonesian who speak that way!”
She simply blushed.
